Imagine Your Story Virtual Summer Reading Program July/August

Sharon Hill Public Library will be having a virtual summer reading program throughout the summer months filled with many fun crafts, lots of storytelling, and virtual videos of Ms. Kaitlyn (three days a week) providing you with STEAM activities and more!

Summary:

  • Each child will receive an “Imagine Your Story” bag filled with art supplies, their own notebook, a folder that will include directions for each week, Summer Reading Passport, allergy sheet, and parent permission slip (for virtual learning/videos/summer reading program).
  • Each week, a child will get a new book to take home to read and keep.
  • Other things that will be placed in the bag will be fun items for each child to keep- book marks, cups, etc.
  • Virtual Learning
  • Access to Ms. Kaitlyn through technology.
  • Each week will have a theme.

Goal:

  • Motivate children to read.
  • Develop positive attitudes about reading, books, and the library.
  • Maintaining their reading skills during summer vacation.
  • Children will have access to experiences through which they can learn to work cooperatively.
  • Keep children involved virtually.
  • To take on this new sense of learning through technology.

Throughout the week, each child will have “directions or instructions” in their folder. Each week children can create two crafts, write/draw in their notebook, read their book, and have access to Ms. Kaitlyn and extra storytelling through the virtual world.

Monday’s- Ms. Kaitlyn will show children how to create something new, whether it is toothpaste, slime, and other activities.

Wednesday’s- Ms. Kaitlyn will have a Storytime for children to listen to. They can also add this story to their Summer Reading Passport.

Thursday’s- Ms. Kaitlyn will show children a STEAM activity. This can be Magic Dancing Beans, making a healthy smoothie, and so much more!

Friday’s- The library staff will be hosting a “Curbside Pizza and Books” for the children. Keeping a safe distance is very important to the Sto-Rox Library but we still want to have a small engagement with each child.

Curbside Pizza and Books- Each child will be able to get pizza, drinks, and snacks, while library staff is adding new directions/instructions, supplies, and a new book into each child’s bag.

**Library staff will be wearing appropriate masks, gloves, and keeping a safe distance away while engaging with each child**

Summer Passport Program- a booklet that will have four book spaces and child will be able to review each book and recommend it to others.

Included on directions will be “EXTRA” items for the child to stay busy throughout the week.
